Edmund Webb (1830-1899) was born in England, the son of a farmer. He came to Australia for his health. Starting as a draper’s assistant he rose to be a leading businessman of the city of Bathurst and a policitician. He was a member of many civic and charitable organisations and died a wealthy man. He built Hathrop in the 1860′s. It later became a hospital.
